Triest

Trieste is a big port town in the northwest Italy that shares a border with Slovenia. It has a rich history with nice cultural soul and it is visited by many tourists every year. Trieste was a meeting point of trade routes and variegated cultural events since forever. The city experienced its largest developing boom in the beginning of the 19th century under the Austro-Hungarian rule. There is a rich architecture heritage in a neoclassical style from this period. The Piazza Unita' square is the hearth of the town, beside it the picturesque municipal palace and many small nice cafes with the famous Italian coffee. On the north side there is the Great canal. Once it was a port, while today is full of small cafes. This was also the favourite walking path of the famous writer James Joyce whose statue stands here. The streets of Trieste are hiding also the antique roman theatre.

Grad Miramare

The Miramare Castle is probably the most famous building of Trieste. It stands on the cliff above the sea and has a fabulous park. The romantic castle was built by Archduke Ferdinand Maksimiljan and was used as a summer residence of Habsburgs. Today it is a private property of an Italian family but we can visit it and admire its botanical park with rare exotic plants and museum of furniture and personal objects from the Habsburgs period.
