You will enjoy every moment of the trip as you will visit a piece of the Soča Valley, then the extremely picturesque small medieval town of Čedad and finally the wine-growing region of Goriška Brda. Culinary delights will definitely be in the forefront, as you will be able to enjoy lunch and Italian coffee in local inns in Čedad, and in the late afternoon, a typical Brda dinner with top-quality local wines. A guided tour of the local winemaker’s cellar with a tasting will be organized before dinner.
This lovely town at the very entrance to the Soča Valley has an artistic and cultural soul. Its famous view of the bridge over the river Soča and the beautiful old square will surely impress you and remain in your memory of the most beautiful corners of Slovenia. From here we will take the road to Italy through small remote villages.
Čedad (Cividale) is a small town with a particularly beautiful, typical medieval image that made it a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011. It is located in the region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia in Italy and it was also the capital of the Roman Empire. The city has 11.355 inhabitants and as much as 30% of them are Slovenes. A particularly beautiful note is given to the place by the stone bridge over the river Nadiža (Natisone). We will walk across the bridge, through the narrow streets, admire some really special examples of medieval architecture, treat ourselves to a typical polenta freak and a real Italian coffee in the café on the square.
The colourful, lively landscape with a Mediterranean character and intoxicating flavours could easily be called the “Slovenian Tuscany”. We will get to know this wine-growing region driving from village to village through many hills and valleys. Vineyards, orchards, small villages and beautiful panoramas that in the good weather offer the view all the way to the sea are experiences that will accompany us in the afternoon of our trip. The truly favourable Mediterranean climate and the hard working hands of the locals are crucial for the top world-famous wines to come from these places. It’s obvious we cannot leave without visiting the local winemaker's cellar and taste these fine wines. Friendly locals will be happy to serve you the specialties of this area in the evening on their farm house.
